Efficient Running Mechanics Clinic
held at Rebound Sports Performance
Jan 19, 2009
Mike Flynn, Program Director at Rebound Sports Performance, presented information on efficient running mechanics to approximately 20 people, including T2 and Sunflower Striders members as well as marathon runners from Washburn University. The three main topics he discussed were posture, arm action and leg action. For each topic he discussed cues to evaluate the presence or absence of efficient form and demonstrated drills for improvement. Good running posture means having “tall hips”, which helps create the right leg angle so that we can spend more time “off the ground”. Proper arm and leg action improve efficiency, reduce fatigue and, most importantly, help prevent injury. Mike also discussed cadence, or number of strides per minute, and how we can focus on the three areas presented to work toward an ideal number. Thanks to Mike for having T2 members back so soon to assist us in our off-season education!
